Covid-19 Series Pt5 - Clean & Disinfect Touchpoints & Surfaces
6 Things you can do now to help fight against COVID-19. Part 5
For anyone cleaning Healthcare facilities or large offices areas, shopping centres etc, always wear the appropriate PPE for cleaning or disinfecting. Check with your manager if you are unclear.
How should I clean & disinfect properly in these uncertain times?
It’s proven that disinfectants do not work as well in the presence of soil, so it’s important to clean our surfaces properly before disinfecting them.
Removing the dirt from the surface first, then laying down the disinfectant is a crucial part of the infection control process.
For effective pre-clean results, a clean microfibre cloth, moistened correctly, will be your best way to clean a surface prior to your disinfection process. You can use a neutral cleaner, or a daily disinfectant for this pre-clean.
Clean TouchPoints first, starting with areas near the patient or resident and unfold the cloth continually to use the other clean sides as you continue to pre-clean.
For Disinfection Cleans
For infectious cleans use Chloreside disinfectant tablets to make your 1000ppm or 4,000ppm disinfectant. Simply add 1 tab per 1 Litre of warm water and wait for it to dissolve.
Pour this disinfectant or whatever disinfectant you are being advised to use onto your bleach resistant microfibre or disposable cloths making sure the cloths are quite wet.
There should be solution in the bucket left after you have used all the cloths.
To disinfect, wipe your touchpoints first with your disinfectant and ensure that the surface remains wet for the right period of time. You may need to wipe them again to ensure this.
If too much disinfectant solution remains on some surfaces after the required time has lapsed, you can wipe them again with a clean slightly moist cloth.
Cleaning and disinfecting will help to ensure our environments are germ free.
