Covid-19 Series Pt1 - Clean Hands Saves Lives

Understand the importance of keeping your hands clean and performing regular cleaning of touch points to help stop the spread of germs.

6 Things you can do now to help fight against COVID-19. Part 1

As you have probably heard a thousand times, cleaning your hands properly with soap and water, will remove germs and protect you from transferring them into your body via touching your face.

It’s true, but the key here is not just to wash your hands once, but to continue cleaning them throughout the day, keeping them always as germ free as possible.

How often should you clean your hands depends on how often you touch unclean surfaces.

To know what surfaces may be unclean, means understanding what may have been touched, by multiple people, who may have had unclean hands themselves.

Frequently touched things, known as TouchPoints are door handles, hand rails, light switches, toilet buttons, taps, soap dispensers, coffee machines, keyboards, mouses, remote controls, Touch screens, mobile phones, cleaners trolleys, mop handles, then list can go on and on..

Every day simple tasks, such as getting to work, forces you to touch your car door handle, your keys, your handbag, steering wheel, radio controls and hopefully not your mobile phone.

To help you keep on top of keeping your hands clean, if you go past a sink, STOP and take the time to wash your hands with soap and water for 20 secs.

While washing, sing the Happy Birthday song to yourself and actually think about someone in your life you would want to see at your next birthday.

After 20 seconds here and wash and dry your hands properly.

If you don't have regular access to a sink, then use an alcohol hand rub and clean your hands on the go.

REMEMBER: Clean your hands before and after putting anything into your body.

It’s believed that the Clean Hands campaign marketed worldwide by the WHO saves up to six million lives per year. A simple thing like cleaning your hands can make the biggest difference to life today on our planet.
